Requests for Transfer

One Time Requests for Transfer

The Request for Transfer service provides a fast, easy and convenient way to initiate payments from your accounts domiciled at virtually any financial institution in any country in the world.

Benefits of this service

The Request for Transfer service allows you to:

  • Move funds between your own accounts at other banks
  • Initiate payments from your own accounts at other banks to third parties
  • Draw-down funds from your own or subsidiary accounts at other banks to your operating accounts in Canada

Note: Scotiabank is strictly a pass through point for MT101 Request for Transfer messages and takes no responsibility for affecting these payments or cancellations. To cancel, amend or trace payments, you must deal directly with the financial institution where the debit account is held.

How to create a one-time request for transfer

Navigate to Payments and select Requests for Transfer in the sub-menu, then choose the Create One Time tab.

  1. From the drop down list, select the Debit Account you would like to make the payment from.

Note: The 'Account With' field at the bottom of the One Time Request for Transfer page will specify the financial institution where the debit account is held. This field will automatically be populated based on the debit account selected.

  2. The Execution Date, which is the date the Ordering Customers account will be debited, defaults to the current date. Using the calendar field you can change the date for the payment to be executed up to 30 days in the future.
  3. The Ordered by field displays the name of the account owner ordering movement of funds from their account. This field will automatically be populated based on the debit account you have selected.

Note: The full name and address of the Ordering Customer will be displayed at the bottom of the Create One Time Request for Transfer page.

  4. You must provide an Amount and Currency for the payment:
    • You can enter the Payment Amount (i.e. the amount to be transferred) and select the Currency from the drop-down list.

      OR
    • You can select the Currency for the payment and enter the Original Currency and Original Amount. For example, you may instruct the other financial institution to debit USD 100.00 (the original amount) and transfer the equivalent CAD 160.00 (the transaction amount) to another of your accounts.
  5. For cross currency payments, an Exchange Rate and Rate Reference must be entered.
    • If you have not booked a foreign exchange contract, the exchange rate should be entered as 0.00 and the Rate Reference should be entered as SPOT. The receiving financial institution will apply the spot rate when your transaction is processed.
    • If you have booked a foreign exchange contract and you enter the rate and reference number, you must specify the payment amount and currency and the original amount and original currency.
  6. From the Treatment of Charges drop-down, indicate which party will bear the applicable charges for the transfer of funds. All transaction charges can be one of the following:

BEN – Covered by the beneficiary

OUR – Covered by the ordering customer

SHA – Covered by the beneficiary except the servicing
