Requesting a New User

A Super User or Administrative User at your company can give new users access to ScotiaConnect. This can be done online in 3 primary steps – request a new user, assign the new user to a group, and have the new user register for ScotiaConnect.

In this help page you’ll find:

How to request a new user

  1. Navigate to Administration > User Information.
  2. Click the red Request a New User button.
  3. Complete the mandatory fields (new user’s first name, last name, phone number, and email address), including choosing a temporary secret word for this new user.
NOTE: When registering, the new user will be prompted to choose a unique secret word, which will be used to confirm their identity when calling customer service.
  4. You can also fill out the optional fields, including Group, Department, Job Title, and Language Preference.
  5. Click the red Continue button.
  6. Select whether this user will be assigned to use the Digital Token app or to use a Physical token.
  7. Click the red Submit button to complete your request.
  8. You will see a Confirmation message and the new user added to the list of users. This new user will also be emailed instructions for registration and information for using the selected security token.
NOTE: A second approval of a new user may be required. If your company selected ‘Requesting a New User Requires Approval from a Different User’ on the ScotiaConnect Service Request form, all new user requests will be given a ‘Pending’ status. The request will not be submitted to Scotiabank until approved by an authorized user. The second approver must sign in to ScotiaConnect to approve the new user directly from the list of users.

How to assign a new user to a group

Once your new user request has been added to the system, the new user’s status will be ‘Active’. You’ll now need to assign this person to a group.

Access to system options is granted to user groups and not to individual users. Every user must be assigned to a group, and a user can only be in one group at a time. Each group has its own level of access and entitlements, established separately. Note: If you need to add the new user to a new group, you must first create the new User Group.
  1. Navigate to Administration > User Information.
  2. From the list of users, find and click the new user’s name.
  3. A User Detail page will open. Verify the information and make any necessary edits.
  4. Select a Status from the dropdown menu. An ‘Active’ user can access the system. An ‘Inactive’ user cannot access the system. Note: To remove someone from ScotiaConnect, return to the list of users, find the user’s name, and click the Delete icon in the Action column.
  5. Select a Group from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click the red Save button.
NOTE: A second approval of a Group may be required. If your company selected ‘Setting up and changing Entitlements requires approval from a different User’ on the ScotiaConnect Service Request form, all services will be treated as sensitive and given a ‘Pending’ status when added to a group. Further, certain services may be deemed sensitive and given a ‘Pending’ status, which can only be changed by a user with appropriate entitlements.

How a new user registers for ScotiaConnect

If assigned to use the Digital Token app, a new user must:
  1. Download the latest version of the Digital Token app on their mobile phone. The app is available on App Store and Google Play. A new user will need to open the app and create a passcode, a unique 4-digit sign-in code.
  2. Register for ScotiaConnect with a reference number, authorization code, and temporary secret word. The reference number, along with further instructions for registering, will be emailed to the new user from Scotiabank. The authorization code and temporary secret word must be provided to the new user by the person who added them to ScotiaConnect.
If assigned to use a Physical Token, a new user must:
  1. Receive a physical token. When Scotiabank receives the request for a new ScotiaConnect user, the Bank issues a new token to your company’s technical contact, who will deliver the security token to the new user. This process usually takes five to seven business days.
  2. Register for ScotiaConnect with a reference number, authorization code, and temporary secret word. The reference number, along with further instructions for registering, will be emailed to the new user from Scotiabank. The authorization code and temporary secret word must be provided to the new user by the person who added them to ScotiaConnect.
How to access the authorization code:
  1. Navigate to Administration > User Information
  2. Click on the requested user’s name to view the user’s details.
  3. Find the authorization code, which displays for 30 days, after which it expires.
